4-H’ers give to Backus Children's Hospital

When a child needs medical care, it can be a stressful time for the entire family. In an effort to ease the stress the Effingham County 4-H'ers prepared 60 treat bags, as well as donated hand-painted flower pots made by the Effingham County 4-H Homeschoolers, for the Backus Children's Hospital at Memorial Health in Savannah.

Grace Academy delivers for Manna House

Students at Grace Academy conducted a month-long food drive and donated the items to Manna House Ministries to distribute. The school decided Manna House was the perfect place to support, while also teaching the students about helping others. Class periods included discussion of Biblical views in giving to people in need.

SEMS cheer team wins first state championship

The South Effingham Middle School competition cheerleaders ended their competition season winning the 2015 Georgia Middle School state championship. This is the first year a state competition has been held at the middle school level in Georgia. The competition was held at the Jefferson High School Arena on Nov. 7.

The Effingham County competitive cheerleading squad finished fourth in the GHSA Class AAAAA state cheerleading meet Saturday in Columbus. Northgate won the state championship.

SEMS takes Cheer Dawg Classic

South Effingham Middle School competition cheer team won first place at the "Cheer Dawg Classic" cheer competition on Oct. 31 hosted by Toombs County High School. The SEMS cheerleaders are undefeated this season. They are preparing for the biggest week of their season to compete at the "Coastal Empire Region Championship" which was held Nov. 5 at Richmond Hill Middle School. The team traveled to Jefferson City High School on Saturday, to compete in the first middle school state competition to be held in Georgia.
