ECHS FFA salutes advisors, seniors
The Effingham County Future Farmers of America held its 53rd annual banquet with more than 200 members and guests present. Dinner was catered by Bobby's Hometown Restaurant, along with entertainment by local country duo One19.

Georgia Southern University preparing for largest graduation in school history
Georgia Southern University will honor its largest-ever graduating class at Spring Commencement on May 8 at 9 a.m. at Paulson Stadium. Approximately 2,900 graduates are receiving their degrees this spring, including more than 2,400 who will participate in the formal ceremony.
Christian Leadership Academy awards students
The Effingham YMCA recently awarded 12 Effingham County High School sophomores and juniors with awards of excellence for completing the 2009-10 year of the Christian Leadership Academy.

BoE to hold annual federal programs info meeting
The public is invited to attend an informational meeting on May 7 to discuss and have the opportunity to provide input and jointly develop the programs under the No Child Left Behind Act. These programs include Title I, Title II Part A, Title II Part D, Title V and the Even Start Family Literacy Program.

In Yvonne Arnsdorff's Effingham County High School 10th grade biology class, the students crowded around front as a young man in a clean white lab coat coached them through the chemical reaction taking place before them.
ECHS goes all out for safe prom
The week before prom, Effingham County High School junior class officers began promoting safe prom by taking cards to local florists and tuxedo rental shops with a poem, "The decisions you make on prom night can change your life. So party responsibly and take care of yourself and your friends." Flyers with the same message were printed and distributed on students' cars the night of prom.

D.E.E.N.O.S USAG Level 7 Gymnastics Team kicked off its 2012 competitive season at the Hilton Head Island Invitational, S.C. on Jan. 15. The Level 7 girls took the fifth place team award.
Starling stars at 4-H DPA
Natalie Starling won first place at District Project Achievement. She competed in the Southeast District for Effingham County. There are 172,000 4-H'ers in the state of Georgia and 66,000 in the Southeast district. Natalie performed the Glee version of "Defying Gravity" from the Broadway hit "Wicked." She sang and played her saxophone. She will advance to State Congress in Atlanta this July and compete at the state level.
