The Effingham County Board of Education has approved a recommendation to temporarily integrate pre-kindergarten and pre-school intervention students into their district elementary schools beginning next fall.
Effingham County has been approved to receive an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant for $300,000 from the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority to implement energy savings projects into the community.
The Effingham County Middle School seventh grade band received Straight Superior ratings for their performance and an Excellent rating in sight reading on stage at the District 1 Band Festival held at Armstrong Atlantic State University on March 12.
Students at Rincon Elementary School participated in the national Kick Butts Day - cigarette butts, that is. Seventy lunch boxes were placed at the front entrance of the school to represent the 70 children who try cigarettes for the first time every day. They are also in the midst of Tar Wars, another program that educates children about the short and long term effects of tobacco use.
After raising $4,000 each to buy ShelterBoxes after the January earthquake in Haiti, South Effingham High and Springfield Elementary students were able to see where their money went when they helped assemble the 10-man tent in front of their schools last week.
