CCA to hold open house
Covenant Christian Academy is hosting an open house on Thursday at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. The morning session will be held at the school, located at 505 N. Laurel Street in Springfield. The evening session will be held at Life Baptist Church on Highway 21, south of Springfield, which is the school's new location for 2007-2008.
SEHS awarded grant for SchoolPads
Next fall, science classes at South Effingham High School will offer more interactive student and teacher participation than in the past thanks to a grant from the Planters Telephone Foundation. According to SEHS Media Specialist Carolyn Kessler, the grant will pay to outfit three classrooms with interactive boards called SchoolPad, software to operate them, ceiling-mounted projectors, quality projection screens, and complete installation for the three classrooms.
SSU offers law school preparation workshop
Savannah State University's (SSU) Department of Political Science, Public Administration and Urban Studies, in cooperation with the SSU Pre-Law Society, will sponsor a workshop for individuals who plan to attend law school.
Digger Dog visits elementary schools
The Utilities Protection Center of Georgia's mascot, Digger Dog, visited Rincon and Marlow Elementary schools in Effingham to encourage students in second and third grades to "Call Before You Dig." Big night for ECHS FFA
The ECHS FFA held its annual banquet Tuesday night at the school and is marking 50 years as an organization this year. The event drew nearly 250 people.
Springfield students put on a kindergarten musical
Mrs. Wood's Kindergarten class at Springfield Elementary put on a performance of "High School Musical" for the entire school on April 20. The extras for the performance came from children of the faculty and staff.
Immunization changes effective next school year
Preschool students, students entering sixth grade and any child entering any grade for the first time will be required to meet some new immunization rules before they can start school next fall, according to new Georgia state laws.
SEMS students to be recognized by Duke TIP
The Duke Talent Identification Program (TIP) will recognize two South Effingham Middle School students, Michael Edwards and Emilia Truluck. These students will be honored at the state recognition ceremony to be held at Georgia Southern University on May 22.

See You At The Pole
"Converge" was the 2011 See You at the Pole theme held Sept. 28. More than 70 students attended the event at South Effingham Middle School. Supported by students, friends, family, and staff members the SEMS SYATP Leadership Team hosted the event. The leadership committee provided free doughnuts and gave out See You at the Pole Bracelets provided by the SEMS Y-Club to all attendees.
State asks for waiver from some NCLB provisions
