Effingham students earn dean’s list honors at Georgia Southern University
Georgia Southern University students from Effingham County have been named to the dean's list for the fall 2009 term. To be eligible for the dean's list, a student must have at least a 3.50 grade point average and carry a minimum of 12 hours for the semester.

Tax money now rolling in for BoE
The financial report for the Effingham County Board of Education is looking up after more than $11 million in property taxes was collected in January.
ECHS comes through
Students from Valentina Quarterman's advanced placement psychology class initiated a drive for donations to the Red Cross for Haitian earthquake relief. "As soon as it happened, the next day, we decided to collect funds," Quarterman said. The fundraising effort was conducted schoolwide.
Schools getting a thumbs-up
After a four-day in-depth review of the Effingham County School System, the Quality Assurance Review team from AdvancED announced its recommendation for district accreditation as a quality school system at the school board meeting Wednesday.

STC winter enrollment jumps 18.8 percent
SAVANNAH – Official enrollment numbers for the start of the winter quarter 2010, show an increase of 18.8 percent in total credit enrollment from the same quarter last year, marking the second consecutive quarter that enrollment has topped 5,000 and the largest ever enrollment for winter quarter.

Skidaway presents science fair advice
There is help in sight for students and parents who are daunted by the prospect of an upcoming science fair project.
See You At The Pole
"Converge" was the 2011 See You at the Pole theme held Sept. 28. More than 70 students attended the event at South Effingham Middle School. Supported by students, friends, family, and staff members the SEMS SYATP Leadership Team hosted the event. The leadership committee provided free doughnuts and gave out See You at the Pole Bracelets provided by the SEMS Y-Club to all attendees.
State asks for waiver from some NCLB provisions
U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) and State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge personally delivered Georgia's request for a waiver to certain provisions of No Child Left Behind (NCLB), and an alternative, to U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.

ECHS YAC pitches in for FORCE
From Sept. 12-16 the ECHS Youth Advisory Council, along with the Interact Club and Family Connection Communities and Schools, sponsored an After Labor Day Food Drive benefitting the Food Outreach Co-op of Effingham (FORCE). They collected 1,500 nonperishable goods to help FORCE restock local food pantries.

Hart earns dean’s list honor at Darton College
ALBANY - Jennifer A. Hart of Rincon made the Dean's List at Darton College for the Summer 2011 semester. To qualify for the Dean's List, a student must be full time and have earned a 3.4 or higher grade point average.

Career Academy hits the Gold standard with LEED
Mark Fitzpatrick of the Savannah branch of the U.S. Green Building Council presented a plaque to Effingham County Board of Education Chairman Lamar Allen on Wednesday, certifying the Effingham Career Academy as a LEED Gold facility.
