Effingham County schools have raised $25,801 for Haiti relief efforts. The donations were totaled at a principal's meeting at the Board of Education headquarters last Friday. The almost $26,000 collected far exceeded the original goal of one dollar per student and teacher, which would have been less than half of the total. Employees of Georgia Power Steven Snooks, Mike Gresham and David Elliott brought the Power Town Village, a miniature scale town that has real electric lines that they energize, to the ECHS pre-kindergarten class to do a safety presentation that teaches students to stay away from power lines. The presentation showed students what could happen if they come in contact with a power line.
