SEMS hosts open house, uniform fashion show

South Effingham Middle School hosted an open house for incoming students and their parents. On the agenda time was given to show the new school uniform options for next year. Current students demonstrated the multiple options that students can choose from and still be in compliance. A student panel was recruited to share with the incoming students. They were given a time for questions and answers.

Students name mascot

Shamia Wallace and LaTrell Fennell, both students at Marlow Elementary, submitted the winning name for Georgia's new litter prevention and abatement mascot, "The Brown Trasher." Of the 7,000 entries the state received, 24 students submitted the winning name, "Buster." All 24 were invited to the mascot naming ceremony on March 23 at the capitol.

Cagle to address Georgia Southern's 2007 graduates

Georgia's 11th Lt. Governor, Casey Cagle, will address 2,344 degree candidates at Georgia Southern University's spring 2007 commencement Saturday, May 5, beginning at 9 a.m. in Paulson Stadium. The candidates include 1,855 undergraduates and 489 graduate students.

Zipperer voted king of spring dance

Devin Zipperer of Rincon and Farren Crisp of Adams Run, S.C. were voted King and Queen at the USC Salkehatchie Student Spring Dance on April 13. Zipperer is a sophomore and is also a member of the USC Salkehatchie baseball team. Crisp is a sophomore.

SEMS student earns River of Words state recognition

Skye Mills, a sixth grade student at South Effingham Middle School, has been selected as a state winner in the River of Words Art and Poetry Project. As a member of the SEMS Gifted program, the prize-winning poetry was a result of a collaborative assignment between the scientific study of water and the literary genre of poetry.
