Photo provided The students in Mrs. Michelle Corless' first grade class at Rincon Elementary School have invented their own robots. They have been learning about robots during reading. Each student made robots out of recycled items. They used coffee cans, milk jugs, boxes, toilet paper rolls, computer parts and many other items to make their inventions.

The Effingham County school system is participating in a free, eight-week statewide wellness and fitness program, Walk Georgia, which launched March 6 and ends April 30.

STC to start electrical utility technology program
SAVANNAH-This fall Savannah Technical College will begin enrolling students in a specialized program that prepares skilled technicians to work in the fast-paced world of power generation and transmission. The Electrical Utility Technology (EUT) programs will include an associate degree, diploma and certificate option and will incorporate a range of new technologies.

Early Learning standards study released

Effingham County 4-H’ers attend State Congress
Effingham County 4-H'ers attended State Congress in Atlanta from July 19-22 and returned home with high honors. The 4-H State Congress brings students from all over Georgia together to compete in project achievement areas at the state level.

Forbes names GSU one of ‘America’s Best Colleges’
Georgia Southern University has been named one of America's Best Colleges by Forbes magazine, whose ranking includes the top 20 percent of colleges and universities based on the "student's point of view." The honor is the latest for the growing university that expects to welcome a record 20,000 students to its campus when fall semester classes begin Aug. 22.
