South Effingham Elementary jump starts art program
The cafeteria at South Effingham Elementary School was transformed into an art gallery Tuesday night as parents, students and staff came out to see and buy student artwork.

Saturday, eight student designers and their models did their little turns on the catwalk at South Effingham High's 4th annual Fashion Show, themed "Dusk to Dawn." Either alone or in teams, these designers worked outside of school since September to create clothing in three categories: "Plant Life," "Different….But the Same" and "Go Green!" Effingham students attend annual RYLA
Building Future Leaders was the mission of a recent youth event hosted by Georgia Rotary District 6920 at South Georgia College. Sixty students from the district attended the annual Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Conference (RYLA) at SGC. RYLA is a Rotary International program that started in Southeast Asia and has spread across the world.

CLAY NATIONAL GUARD CENTER, MARIETTA-Seven Effingham County teens graduated June 18 from the National Guard Youth Challenge program. Commencement ceremonies were held for Class 2011-36 from the campus operated by the Georgia Army Guard at the Guard Garrison Training Center in Hinesville.

The Effingham County High School Class of 1966 enjoyed its 45th reunion on June 11th at Holiday Inn Express in Port Wentworth.
Claxton awarded Plum Creek scholarship
Plum Creek has awarded a $2,000 scholarship to an Effingham County high school graduate. Plum Creek annually awards scholarships to exemplary high school seniors who plan to continue their education after graduation. The scholarships recognize students who demonstrate academic excellence, involvement in school and community activities, and overall achievement throughout their high school careers. William Claxton is the recipient for Effingham County.
