STATESBORO-Christopher Gerdmann of Rincon will travel to Mexico with the Georgia Southern University Eagle Motorsports Racing team to compete in the SCORE (Southern California Off Road Experience) International Baja 1000 race Nov. 18-23.
South Effingham Middle School competition cheer team won first place at the "Cheer Dawg Classic" cheer competition on Oct. 31 hosted by Toombs County High School. The SEMS cheerleaders are undefeated this season. They are preparing for the biggest week of their season to compete at the "Coastal Empire Region Championship" which was held Nov. 5 at Richmond Hill Middle School. The team traveled to Jefferson City High School on Saturday, to compete in the first middle school state competition to be held in Georgia.
Effingham County College and Career Academy was named one of five finalists Thursday for the College and Career Academy of the Year at Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle's eighth annual business and education summit.
The South Effingham Middle School Competition Cheerleaders brought home another win Oct. 24 at "Battle in the Boro" cheer competition, hosted by Statesboro High School. The SEMS cheerleaders earned first place in the large division by a 43-point lead. They are now preparing for their next competition, the "Cheer Dawg Classic," which will be held on Saturday at Toombs County High School.
A group of ECE/FCCLA students visited Lakeview Manor recently. While there, the students talked with the residents, "assisted" with a Halloween craft, and gathered around the piano to enjoy music while one of the residents played. Before they left, the students and residents were planning the next visit.
Students from each of Effingham's eight elementary schools participated in the Special Olympics at South Effingham High School on Oct. 23. High School students from both local high schools who are on the medical track served as volunteers, alongside Effingham County Schools' occupational therapists.
Youth from the Effingham College and Career Academy chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America recently participated in a motivational rally held Oct. 14 at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry.
Springfield Elementary School students attended the Ebenezer Alive! educational program on Sept. 30 for their annual field trip. Ebenezer Alive!, New Ebenezer Retreat Center staff and Georgia-Pacific provided three classes that the students attended.
