SEHS bands deliver winter concert
The winter concert of the SEHS bands was presented earlier this month. Directed by Sean McBride and Michael Nestor, with guest conductor Somi Benson-Jaja, several different musical groups from the school's band program performed. BoE: Number of tests may change in near future
Are students being tested too much? That's what one Effingham Board of Education member wanted to know after results of the Georgia High School Writing Test and the Iowa Test of Basic Skills were presented. Effingham County Schools' students are holding their own against students across the nation and the state, according to recent test results.
SEMS citizens of the month
Students were chosen by their grade level teachers to represent their team as Citizen of the Month for November at South Effingham Middle School were: Lauren Adams, Raquel Hazzard, Miranda Arrington, Steven Patterson, Alex Jonas, Conner Rickman, Liam Bending, Kenneth LaFleur and Nathaniel Robinson.
Calculus Club makes it count
The Effingham County High School Calculus Club celebrated Down Syndrome Awareness month during the month of October by raising funds for the local Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society. They raised money through a raffle and by collecting donations in their piggy banks during their annual "Dimes for Down Syndrome" campaign. This year, the club raised a record $1,321.35 through their efforts.
Gomez graduates from Gardner-Webb University
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Gardner-Webb University announces that Jennifer Gomez of Rincon was among a total of nearly 300 students who recently graduated during its 2009 fall commencement exercises.Gomez received a BS in Physical Education.

Britt Dance Company brought in Los Angeles-based dance choreographer Rustin Matthews earlier this year. Matthews is a professional dancer as well as one of the best choreographers in the industry.
Pre-k family pajama party at ECHS
Effingham High School Principal Yancy Ford hosted a Family Pajama party for this year's and last year's Effingham County High School Pre-K students. More than 100 students and family members attended this event and students and their families enjoyed pizza, popcorn, and drinks.

The Ebenezer Middle School Chorus and Show Choir, under the direction of Lawanda D. Allen, presented its winter concert to a large crowd. The combined grade levels spanned the entire width of the stage as they sang the final numbers of the evening along with the show choir.

YMCA accepting applications for Christian Leadership Academy
The Christian Leadership Academy, a seven-month program beginning in September, is designed to take 12 rising high school sophomores and juniors from Effingham County public and private schools and train them in the skills of leadership done from a Christian perspective.

Back-to-school immunization clinics coming to Effingham
School books have been put away for now and children in Effingham County are enjoying the lazy days of summer. But the new school year is fast approaching and in preparation, Effingham County Health Department officials will extend clinic hours to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19 and Tuesday, July 26 so children can get the necessary back-to-school screenings and immunizations.

CLAY NATIONAL GUARD CENTER, MARIETTA-Seven Effingham County teens graduated June 18 from the National Guard Youth Challenge program. Commencement ceremonies were held for Class 2011-36 from the campus operated by the Georgia Army Guard at the Guard Garrison Training Center in Hinesville.
