Arch Smith, Georgia 4-H State Leader, presented Sophie Usher with her recognition as a Double Master 4-H member. Usher, a recent graduate of Effingham County High School, is the daughter of Tim and Holly Usher. As the recipient of the 4-H Achievement Scholarship, Usher was recognized at the opening banquet of State 4-H Congress for her accomplishments.
The Christian Leadership Academy, a seven-month program beginning in September, is designed to take 12 rising high school sophomores and juniors from Effingham County public and private schools and train them in the skills of leadership from a Christian perspective.
Emotions and passions are running high following a request to the Effingham County Board of Education to end the use of the Rebels name and the playing of "Dixie" as a fight song at Effingham County High School.
Happy times were had at the Happy House on Tybee Island as Cadette Troops 1147, 1184 and 1121 from Fort Worth, Texas, visited with Cadette Troop 30197 from Guyton. The girls enjoyed a lasagna dinner and making a beachy pudding dessert. The girls also shared songs with each other as they earned their Savannah Sings pin.
Martha Paramo from Effingham College and Career Academy competed in food innovations and brought home a silver medal from the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America National Leadership Conference.
The Effingham County High School Little Rebel cheer camp filled the ECHS gym with 70 kids taking part. The young cheerleaders, under the guidance throughout the week from 35 high school cheeerleaders, ranged in ages from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade.
