Additional financial aid budgeted for Ga. students

ATLANTA - An additional 8,722 students in Georgia would receive Pell grants if excessive lender subsidies are cut, according to a new report released by the Campaign for America's Future. The report shows that this simple change would provide an average Pell grant of $3,010 to about 181,580 students across the state.

School lunch, breakfast prices to increase

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a meal price increase on Wednesday that will take effect for the 2009-10 school year. Breakfast prices will increase 15 cents and lunch prices will increase 25 cents.

Health department extending hours for back-to-school immunizations

The Effingham County Health Department will be open July 22 and 29 from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. for parents to bring their children in for back-to-school immunizations. The health department is located at 802 Highway 119 South in Springfield.
