SEES Media Open House features poetry readings

The South Effingham Elementary media center staff held an open house on April 24 to celebrate being recognized by the Georgia Department of Education as an Exceptional Library Media Program. The award criteria was being able to prove a high level of quality and quantity of the services that the school's media program provides its students, staff, parents and community. The open house was a perfect example of how this media center meets those criteria.

ECHS juniors selected for CNN summer program

Simone Rego and Peyton Callanan, juniors at Effingham County High School, will be spending an all-expense paid week in June on the Georgia Tech campus and CNN headquarters as they participate in "Leadership Unplugged," a CNN 21st Century Leaders summer program.

Quick thinkers

Autumn Asbill of Guyton Elementary School was the winner in the Effingham Exchange Club's eighth annual Quick Think-a-Thon on Friday at Ebenezer Middle School. Kinsley Lupton of Marlow was first runner-up, Luke Collins of Blandford was second runner-up and Madison Messer of Blandford was third runner-up. The winners are pictured with "the Foozer," the Quick-Think-a-Thon mascot, and WTOC-TV's Sonny Dixon.

The 2009 Miss Effingham County Middle School and her court include left to right, fourth runner up Mallory Long, second runner up Hannah Rahn, Miss ECMS Mallory Ansel, first runner up Callie Martin and third runner up Caitlyn Fears. Also recognized were best formal wear – Callie Martin, best casual wear – Mallory Long, Miss Spirit of ECMS – Bridget Centers, Miss Photogenic – Logan Hinely and highest GPA – Callie Martin.

Brownies donate to Safe Haven

Brownie Troop 30358 of Rincon helped Safe Haven Women's Shelter in Statesboro. The troop used profits from the cookie sale to purchase items for the shelter. The girls took a shopping trip to the Dollar Tree in Rincon to buy hygiene items, kitchen items and craft supplies to donate to the shelter. They also held a clothing drive and collected bedding. The girls attend Blandford, Ebenezer and Sand Hill elementary schools.
