Armstrong State University will host a one-day registration event for new students to apply, be admitted and sign up for fall classes. Designed to kick start careers in growing fields including information technology, business economics, health science and more, this event is tailored to working professionals, though traditional students are also welcome.
When a child needs medical care, it can be a stressful time for the entire family. In an effort to ease the stress the Effingham County 4-H'ers prepared 60 treat bags, as well as donated hand-painted flower pots made by the Effingham County 4-H Homeschoolers, for the Backus Children's Hospital at Memorial Health in Savannah.
Effingham County Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie reads to Liz Allen's pre-kindergarten class at Effingham County High School during National Pre-K Week. Allen's class was one of many Sheriff McDuffie visited to read to kids.
Students at Grace Academy conducted a month-long food drive and donated the items to Manna House Ministries to distribute. The school decided Manna House was the perfect place to support, while also teaching the students about helping others. Class periods included discussion of Biblical views in giving to people in need.
The South Effingham Middle School competition cheerleaders ended their competition season winning the 2015 Georgia Middle School state championship. This is the first year a state competition has been held at the middle school level in Georgia. The competition was held at the Jefferson High School Arena on Nov. 7.
Effingham County 4-H'ers assisted Family Promise by volunteering in a Poverty Simulation event designed to help participants understand the reality of poverty and to increase awareness of the challenges faced by individuals living at or near the poverty level.
STATESBORO-Christopher Gerdmann of Rincon will travel to Mexico with the Georgia Southern University Eagle Motorsports Racing team to compete in the SCORE (Southern California Off Road Experience) International Baja 1000 race Nov. 18-23.
