GSU announces spring dean's list

Georgia Southern University recently recognized 2,145 students for excellence in academics on the 2010 spring semester Dean's List. To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must have at least a 3.5 grade point average and carry a minimum of 12 hours for the semester. The following students from Effingham County earned Dean's List honors:

Georgia Southwestern announces spring honors

Kristin G. Pair was named to the dean's list at Georgia Southwestern University in Americus for the spring 2010 semester.
To make dean's list, students must take at least 15 hours of courses and earn a grade point average of 3.5.
Suzanne S. Fenter was named to the academic achievement list at Georgia Southwestern for the spring semester. To earn that honor, students previously must have earned 15 hours at GSW, be enrolled in three to 14 hours of courses and earn a grade point average of 3.5.

ECHS cadets excel at leadership school

Cadets from the Effingham County High School Air Force JROTC, unit designation GA-938, earned the Unit of Excellence Award for their collective scores at the Southeast Regional Summer Leadership School held at Mercer University from June 13-19.
The Unit of Excellence Award is awarded to the unit (school) whose cadets amass the highest score of the other participating units. Putting ag to work in the classroom

MACON-Teachers can learn ways to add pizzazz to their classroom strategies in math, social studies, language arts and science using agriculture as a teaching tool through Georgia Farm Bureau's Ag In The Classroom Professional Learning Unit (PLU) course.
This three-day course provides 20 contact hours and two PLU credits upon successful completion. It includes a field trip to learn about area agriculture and a variety of classroom resources for teachers to use. Savannah Technical College honors area manufacturers

SAVANNAH-Every year, Savannah Technical College nominates area manufacturers for consideration as Manufacturer of the Year as a part of the Manufacturing Appreciation Week each spring.
This year, the college nominated SNF Chemtall, JCB, Weyerhaeuser and Daniel Defense. Companies are nominated based on their size. SNF Chemtall was nominated in the large category; Weyerhaeuser and JCB in the medium category and Daniel Defense in the small category.

Savannah Tech working to get students Work Ready

Getting a job these days is hard enough, but getting one without basic education is almost impossible.
Thanks to the Georgia Work Ready Initiative, Savannah Technical College is offering GED (the general education development diploma) test prep classes and Work Ready certification free of charge in Rincon and all of its campuses.
The programs are available to anyone age 16 or older, although students under 18 must officially withdraw from school.
