Shutdown Challenge cuts $2M

SSU granted degree programs
SAVANNAH - The University System of Georgia Board of Regents has approved three, new degree programs at Savannah State University - a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science with a concentration in Chemistry or Biology; a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a concentration in Secondary Education; and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a concentration in Secondary Education.

Chancellor: University System will meet challenges
Chancellor Erroll B. On Jan. 27, Skills USA members from South Effingham High School and Effingham County High School competed at the regional competition. Five of the six members from ECHS placed first in their categories and five of the 10 members from SEHS placed first.

Darton College bestows honors on local students
ALBANY-Cindy L Price and Dana L Shores of Rincon made the Merit List at Darton College in Albany for the Fall 2010 semester. To qualify for the Merit List, a student must be part time and have earned a 3.4 or higher grade point average.

Middle School redistricting recommendation

Environmentalist, author to speak at Armstrong Atlantic
Armstrong Atlantic State University announces the Leadership Lecture Series speaking event for spring 2013. Janisse Ray, writer and environmental activist, will give her lecture and reading, "Leading by Example: Sustainability and Our Future," on April 11 at 6 p.m., at the Armstrong Center, 13040 Abercorn St. The event is free and open to the public.

GSU’s Raptor Center lands $10K donation from Gulfstream
Georgia Southern University's Center for Wildlife Education and the Lamar Q Ball Jr. Raptor Center received a donation of $10,000 to its Freedom Fund for Excellence from Gulfstream Aerospace. The gift honors Gulfstream's Pres Henne, who is retiring from his position as senior vice president of programs, engineering and test. The money will be used to support the center's ongoing wildlife education programs.
Effingham joining in honoring of school board members
The Effingham County School System is joining in a statewide celebration next week to salute the efforts of local school board members.
SEHS FFA takes home multiple wins at competitions
The South Effingham High School FFA horse judging team competed at the State Horse Judging Career Development Event at Fort Valley State University on Feb. 9. There were 39 teams in their division (senior division).
