The Exchange Club of Effingham County honored its ACE (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) Award nominees and its nominees for the Youth of the Year. ACE Award nominees are Ashley Parrett, Sarah Wilson, Sharmar Grey, Maci Varnell and Arianna Fournier. Year of the Youth nominees are Julian Pace are Garrett Hodges, Gabi Usher of l, Chandler Cubbedge, Tess DeMeyer, Raquel Hazzard and Tess DeMeyer.
The Georgia Southern Enactus team competed and won at the Enactus Regional Competition in Atlanta on April 1. The student-led organization focuses on providing economic support to the local area through sustainable entrepreneurial projects.
Richard Walls, a native of Springfield and a junior at Savannah State University was chosen recently to represent the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences as a keynote speaker during the Honors Day Convocation held March 24.
Four middle school students from Effingham County were selected to participate in the Georgia Music Educators Association Middle School All State Band in Athens on March 3-5. Two students from Ebenezer Middle School (Nate Dickey, trumpet and Martin Carper, trumpet) and two students from Effingham County Middle School (Steven Boyles, alto saxophone and Zach Gatewood, trombone) participated in the three-day event. Over 11,000 students in grades 6-8 auditioned for the Georgia All-State Band with around 200 students being selected at the middle school level.
BATON ROUGE, LA-The following local residents recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.
Rebecca Kight, a senior at South Effingham High School, won the Exchange Club of Effingham County's speech contest. The theme was citizenship, and Kight drew on the experiences and lessons she's learned from her mother, a lieutenant with the Chatham County Sheriff's Office.
