Effingham County’s elected officials took their oaths of office Tuesday, the final step before assuming their offices.
Clerk of Superior Court Elizabeth Hursey and Probate Court Judge Beth Rahn Mosley were sworn in Tuesday morning by Ogeechee Judicial Circuit Judge Gates Peed. Hursey was unopposed in her re-election bid, and Mosley won a runoff with local attorney Rick Rafter to succeed Frances Seckinger as probate judge.

Chief clerk of the probate court Judy Suhor administered the oaths to the remainder of Effingham’s elected county officials.

Sworn in Tuesday afternoon in the Treutlen Courtroom in the Effingham County Judicial Complex were:
Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie
Tax Commissioner Linda McDaniel
Coroner David Exley
Commissioners Dusty Zeigler, Bob Brantley and Reggie Loper
Board of Education members Troy Alford, Lamar Allen and Vickie Decker
Chief Magistrate Scott Hinson

McDuffie faced no opposition in the November general election and neither did Exley. Allen and Decker — appointed when Vera Jones stepped down earlier this year — had no opposition for their seats. Alford defeated Talbert Edenfield to retain his District 2 seat. Hinson won a runoff against Scott Lewis to succeed Preston Exley, who retired from the position.
