The show will go on Saturday night in Springfield.

Thanks to contributions from businesses and citizens, Springfield’s annual fireworks show will take place on its usual Saturday prior to the 4th of July at Effingham County High School. With the 4th falling on a Saturday this year, that puts the show on this Saturday.

Gates at ECHS will open at 6:30 p.m., Springfield City Manager Brett Bennett said, and the fireworks will go off just after dark.

“We’ll probably lose some people,” Bennett said of the date, “but it’s a good option for people who are going out of town for the 4th.”
Springfield holds its fireworks show on the Saturday before the holiday in order not to compete with similar displays on River Street in Savannah or on Tybee Island.

“This will appear as more of a family atmosphere,” Bennett said of Springfield’s event. “I think that’s the biggest advantage to ours. I think it is a completely different atmosphere.”

One of the biggest changes for this year’s event, Bennett said, was the addition of radio station Kix96, which is helping to promote the event and also will have drawings during the event.
