POSTED: March 2, 2017 4:31 p.m.

Members of the Effingham County Industrial Development Authority were on hand Thursday as they cut the ribbon to a 287-acre solar farm in Rincon.

The farm, owned and operated by AES Distributed Energy, is located on the site of an old timber farm in Rincon and is a 16-megawatt photovoltaic project.

Interconnected to Southern Company, this site transmissions 32,000 megawatts with the capability to power more than 3,280 homes.

The solar farm, which was already working in providing energy in the Fall, is now fully operational.

Effingham IDA CEO, John Henry, has said that the solar farm will be highly valuable to the community and will have a positive impact economically for many years.
