Six million students across America participate in 4-H and, of those, more than 170,000 call Georgia home. To raise awareness of the state’s largest youth development organization, the week of Oct. 1-7 has been declared National 4-H Week.

Georgia 4-H is available to children in all of Georgia’s 159 counties. Here in Effingham County, more than 2,000 students in fourth through 12th grade participate in 4-H programs. Local University of Georgia Cooperative Extension 4-H Agent Abby Smith, along with Jessica Dasher, 4-H program assistant; Kandice Nelson, 4-H program assistant; and Madison Wilson, 4-H Americorps member; lead the Effingham County 4-H program.
