Pastors join forces, invite public to event designed to promote unity

POSTED: October 9, 2017 2:21 p.m.

RINCON -- Responding to recent divisive events, including the confrontation between groups in Charlottesville, Va., that resulted in the death of Heather Heyer on Aug. 12, four Effingham County religious leaders came together and organized an event, “Love One Another,” to counter this divisiveness and, instead, to encourage unity among all the members of the larger community.

“Love One Another” will take place Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Rincon. Gary Lewis, pastor, First Baptist Church of Rincon; Steve Plonk, pastor, Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Rincon; David Rose, pastor, St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Rincon; and Leroy Lloyd, president, Effingham County Branch NAACP, and a deacon at Macedonia Church, Guyton, invite the community members to “love one another at the community-wide celebration of unity.

See the Oct. 11 edition of the Effingham Herald for more details.
