RINCON -- The Effingham Herald was struck by projectiles fired from a rifle Saturday night.

The front door of the newspaper office at 586 S. Columbia Ave. and an adjacent window were shattered. In addition, a desk was struck and two large holes were left in a paper cutter.

The company's air conditioner was also damaged.

Editor Mark Lastinger discovered the damage upon his arrival to work at 7:30 a.m. Sunday and immediately notified the Rincon Police Department. He said he saw nothing unusual when he left the office the previous day at approximately 9 p.m.

The Effingham Herald, which was also vandalized by gunfire in June 2017, encourages anyone who has information about the incident to contact the Rincon Police Department at 912-826-5200.
