GUYTON -- The South Effingham Mustangs scored on their first offensive snap and cruised to a 35-0 victory over Long County in their lightning-delayed season opener Saturday. The contest, originally set for Friday, kicked off at 11 a.m. The early start was not a problem for South Effingham, which is 1-0 for the first time since crushing Jenkins 45-12 in its initial contest of 2015. Taylor Jackson and Zachary Taylor got things started Saturday, hooking up on a short pass over the middle that turned into a long touchdown. Taylor juked the safey afer hte catch and cruised unmolested across the goal line. In their last two seasons, the Mustangs waited until their 10th game to notch their first victory. See the Aug. 22 edition of the Effingham Herald for more details.
