Infographic: The rich culture of soccer is everywhere — except for the U.S.

Soccer has taken the world by storm, weaving itself into cultures all over the world. The accompanying infographic shows some interesting facts about what has become the most-watched sporting event in the world.
But in the United States, it’s not quite there yet. According to a Washington Post-ABC News poll, only 28 percent of Americans identify themselves as soccer fans. Part of the reason may be that the country’s sport culture is already crowded with the big four — football, basketball, baseball and hockey.
The question, then, is what needs to happen in order for the rich culture of soccer to establish itself in the hearts of Americans the same way these other sports have?
