The South Effingham High School Student Council sponsored the “Kisses for Catie” 5K run/walk on Feb. 22 to raise money for childhood cancer research.

All proceeds were donated to Catie’s Fund in memory of Catie Wilkins, an Effingham County native who battled brain cancer and died at 4 years old. The 5K raised $1,400 for the fight against childhood cancer.

The event had more than 50 participants. David Shyrock, a freshman at SEHS, finished first with a time of 21:26.

Student Council members said they were pleased with the turnout and plan on making it an annual event.
