Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Burgstiner of Savannah will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary with a surprise reception hosted by their four children and spouses on June 13 at Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Pooler.

H.L. and Mildred were married on June 12, 1949, at Jerusalem Lutheran Church (Ebenezer) in Rincon. H.L. retired from Life of Georgia Insurance Company after 30 years of service as an exemplary salesman, having won over a dozen trips. Mildred was employed at Life of Georgia as a secretary and cashier until marrying, then began her career as a wonderful homemaker, devoting her time and love as a wife, mother and “Mema.”

H.L. enjoys fishing and gardening. He has most enjoyed faithfully serving as president and chief elder at Risen Savior Lutheran Church. Mildred enjoys serving in various civic organizations. Her greatest joy has been in serving her church in many capacities to include Sunday school teacher, Bible study leader, alter guild chairman and secretary.

H.L. and Mildred are greatly loved by countless family and friends for their endless love and devotion for their Lord and their church and for their unconditional, humble and generous giving in so many capacities.

They are most loved and appreciated by their four children and families; Maj. (U.S. Air Force retired) Danny Burgstiner and wife Dawn of Rincon, and children Jason, Lance and Kristin; Beverly O’Connell and husband Steve of Altoona, Fla. and children, Darby and Erin; Andrea Herrington and husband Jack of Rincon and children, Loren (Blackburn), Megan and Kaitlyn; and Loren Hudson and husband Brad of Rincon and children Dustin, Miranda and Shae.

They have one great-grandchild, 3-year-old Landon Blackburn. H.L. and Mildred are the epitome of God’s calling as a Christian husband and wife, exemplified by their 60 years of marriage.

Their children and grandchildren give God the honor and praise for his many blessings to this couple and for the blessing they are to all who know them.
