U.S. Rep. John Barrow (D-Savannah) is asking residents of Georgia’s 12th District to participate in his annual “Holiday Cards for Our Troops” program. This is the second year Congressman Barrow has collected holiday cards for soldiers who are recovering from battle and stationed away from their families during the holiday season. The cards will be delivered to soldiers at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington.

“The response was so tremendous last year, we knew the folks from the 12th District would show the same generosity again,” said Barrow.  “A lot of the men and women who are recovering from battle injuries in our nation’s capital are from communities like ours, and most are far from home.  That’s especially hard during the holiday season, and our words of encouragement and support mean a lot to them.”

Last year, residents of the 12th District sent in over 2,000 cards for the troops.

Barrow asks folks to make or purchase a holiday card, write a message of thanks to a service member, and then send or bring the card, unaddressed and with an unsealed envelope, to any one of his district offices Dec. 19.  The envelopes will be addressed and delivered to service members on behalf of the citizens of the 12th District.
