0426 Rev. Rick West
Rev. Rick West

Local Sunday schools are invited to participate in the 134th annual Sunday School Convention on May 5 at the Effingham County Methodist Campground.

The Sunday schools participating will be called to march under the tabernacle beginning at 9:45 a.m. This year the Baptist denomination is host for the convention and Wanda Knight of Corinth Baptist Church is serving as president.

The guest speaker for the day will be Rev. Rick West, the pastor of Corinth Baptist Church near Springfield. A Chatham County native, Rev. West has served as pastor at Windsor Forest Baptist and planted several others, including Emanuel Baptist of Pembroke. He has been on numerous international mission trips in India, Romania and South America.

Rev. West is a graduate of Groves High School, Armstrong State College (now Armstrong Atlantic State University) and Union University. He and his wife, the former Deborah Crosby, have four children and six grandchildren.

An afternoon business session of the officers and delegates will be held at 2:30 p.m. In addition, a Sunday school teachers’ forum will be conducted at the same time by Jim Simmons of Springfield United Methodist Church. The forum will be to discuss items of concern or to share teaching ideas with other Sunday school teachers in the county.

For more information about the convention, to register your Sunday school to participate or to sign up for the afternoon teachers’ forum, contact Stuart Exley at 754-3402.
