The parishioners of St. Boniface Church in Springfield hosted their seventh annual ecumenical supper Jan. 19 as part of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. All Effingham County churches and clergy were invited to attend.

Those present included Father James Bohman and the parishioners of St. Mary Magdalene Orthodox Church in Rincon, who presented retired pastor Father Wes Lamb with a pectoral cross as a token of appreciation for his ecumenical efforts over the years in the county. The cross had been presented to Monsignor Albertus Hemelink Genyiasras upon his consecration as 1st Bishop of Tanjung Karang Province, Indonesia, given by the hand of Pope John XXIII.

Sotheby’s has examined the hallmarks on the back and ascertained that the cross is gilt silver, was produced in Amsterdam in 1927 and has a fair-market value (as of 2004) in the range of $1,000-1,500.
