Six teams competed in the 2011 Effingham County Barbecue Cook Off on Saturday at the  Effingham Fairgrounds, with the Smo-Kings and Muther’s BBQ tying for overall champions.

Other participants were: Tailgator’s BBQ, Backyard BBQ, Big Stack BBQ and The Late Night Supper Club.

The Smo-Kings took first in chicken, pulled pork and ribs and got second in Brunswick stew and barbecue sauce.

Muther’s BBQ placed first in Brunswick stew and barbecue sauce and second in beef brisket, pulled pork and ribs.

Big Stack BBQ was first in beef brisket and Tailgator’s BBQ was second in chicken.

Funds raised at the cook off went to Hope For Savannah, a local charity that assists cancer patients and their families by providing guidance and information.
