TACOMA, Wash. A 77-year-old Washington woman refused to become the victim of a burglary when she scared off a group of intruders in her home.
Guelda Messina was sleeping in her Tacoma home Monday morning when she woke to the sound of someone walking around downstairs, according to KIRO 7 News. At first she thought it was her husband, but when she opened the door of her bedroom, she saw three men instead.
I wasnt as much scared as ticked off, Messina told ABC News. Im not a morning person.
Instead of running or calling for help, Messina immediately took matters into her own hands. She screamed at the would-be burglars to get out of her house, and the terrified men did just that running for the front door without looking back.
Im a mom, said Messina. Its like, you know, automatic. Im the boss.
Security cameras installed throughout the home caught the entire incident on video. A replay of the events shows one of the men ringing the doorbell several times. When no one answers, another man breaks in through the downstairs area and lets the other two in through the front door.
The video shows the man, armed with a crowbar, signaling his accomplices to follow him up the stairs. He grabs Messinas purse, and its right around then that the grandmother of five wakes up and unleashes her wrath.
Get the hell out of here! she screams.
Messinas reaction to the situation didnt come as a surprise to her family.
Thats her, husband John Messina told KIRO. Thats my Guelda. Shes been that way since the day I met her.
Messinas daughter, Megan Bostic, said her mother handles pretty much everything with a bit of humor.
My mom was joking with the cops, saying how bad her hair looked, when she came out she probably terrified them, she said.
Along with the unexpected talking to, the men got away with $20 and a pair of earrings.
