Atlanta-based comedian James Gregory highlighted the Effingham County YMCA’s Priceless Gifts gala Saturday night at JCB headquarters in Pooler.

The gala is a fundraiser for the Y’s scholarship program, and campaign chairman Tim Coleman was delighted with the turnout and the results, especially in the current economy.

“It was definitely a great event,” he said. “Effingham County turned out in a big way.”

The gala raised more than $30,000 and a final tally is expected Wednesday.

“That’s tremendous,” Coleman said of the total.

Tickets for the event, which included a catered prime rib dinner and Gregory, who performed for nearly an hour, were $100. Coleman estimated the attendance at approximately 250.

Gregory and fellow comedian Steve Mingolla performed in the theater inside the JCB facility.

“People had a good time,” Coleman said.
