Bluegrass music is ahead at Mossy Oak Music Park this week from Wednesday evening to Sunday morning as the 31st bluegrass and gospel music festival gets under way.

The unmistakable sound of guitars, banjos, fiddles, dobros, and a “dog house” bass is what you’ll soon hear echoing across Effingham, not to mention the harmony of voices accompanying the music.

Among those performing on the big stage are some of the finest touring groups including: Little Roy Lewis (of the famous Lewis Family) and Lizzie Long, The Bluegrass Brothers, Goldwing Express,  Ralph Stanley II, Grassline, The Suggins Brothers, Danny Stanley and The Bluegrass Gentlemen, The Lonesome Whistle Band, and others. In addition, a special “open stage” for local and area performers who play for the pure pleasure is also set aside each day.

Full five-day festival tickets are $40; daily tickets $20; young people 12-15 half price; and, under 12 free. Camp sites are $15 and $20 a night and tent camping is $5.

The indoor theater at the pavilion seats more than 700  and there is ample free parking at the alcohol-free, family-oriented event. Remember to take your lawn chairs.
