Coastal Georgia was graced with snow Friday night for the first time since 1989.

According to the reports to the National Weather Service, Effingham residents saw as much as 4 inches and at least 1 inch of snow, most of which melted by Saturday afternoon.

Reported totals are as follows: Rincon – 1 inch; Guyton – 2 inches; Springfield – 1.5-2 inches; and the northern part of Effingham may have seen between 3-4 inches.

For some of the reader submitted photos, see page 22. The Herald also will be putting many more shots of the snow on community.effinghamherald.net and as a gallery to go with this story. The Herald thanks all those who sent in their photos.
