Nickia Scott Norman, a treatment nurse at Effingham Hospital, was awarded the 2009 Ray D. Webb Scholarship.

Norman has worked at Effingham Hospital since 2007. She is a native of Bulloch County and is the daughter of Levi and Bertha Scott. Norman received her bachelor of science in health science at Armstrong Atlantic State University, and she is now working toward her masters in nursing.

The Webb Scholarship Award was presented to Norman by Wilhelmina A. Webb, wife of the late Dr. Ray D. Webb, and his daughter Marylee Webb.

The ceremony marked the second annual presentation of the Webb Scholarship. The scholarship is in memory of Dr. Webb, founding physician and first medical advisor of the Effingham Hospital and Care Center.  This scholarship is awarded annually to emerging scholars who seek higher education in the medical field.

It was through Dr. Webb’s dedicated efforts with the Hospital Authority during the late 1960s that Effingham Hospital was first established. Dr. Webb passed away in December 2005 and the first Ray D. Webb Scholarship was presented in his memory exactly one year later. The first recipients were Laura Miller and Brandon Sutton.
