United Way of the Coastal Empire’s 2-1-1 is now taking applications for Atlanta Gas Light Company’s Home and Heart Warming Program.
The Georgia Public Service Commission presented United Way with a grant for $75,000 this summer, which is being used to help low-income homeowners with free repair or replacement of gas appliances such as hot water heaters, furnaces, space heaters and stoves.
Qualified customers may also apply for free weatherization of their home to make it more energy efficient during these colder months.
This program is available to residents of Bryan, Effingham, Liberty and Glynn counties.
To qualify for the program, a person must own their own home, be an Atlanta Gas Light Company customer, have a yearly income of less than 150 percent of the poverty level (which is less than $30,000 for a family of four), provide that all household members are U.S. citizens or legal residents and be in need of repair or replacement to a qualifying appliance.
The focus of the Home and Heart Warming Program is to help families increase their self-sufficiency by lowering their energy bills and improving the safety of their home. This program is also concerned with helping those who are elderly or living with a disability, to maintain independence in their home.
Simply dial 2-1-1 from your home phone to speak with an Information and Referral Specialist and find out if you qualify for the program and how to apply.
T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint/Nextel subscribers may dial 2-1-1 from their cell phone; all other cell phone customers dial 651-7730.
United Way of the Coastal Empire serves Bryan, Chatham, Effingham and Liberty counties.
