The Effingham Chamber’s fifth annual Taste of Effingham is scheduled for March 5 from 5-7 p.m. Chamber Director Rick Lott said that as of Feb. 18, 18 booths signed up to provide food and beverage to the audience at the Effingham County Recreation and Parks gymnasium on Highway 119 in Springfield.

Among the restaurants, caterers, and beverage providers signed up already are: Chef Nick Mueller of the Laughing Boar, the Schnitzel Shack, Gaffney’s Cheap Seats, El Real Mexican, Oh My Yummy, the Effingham College and Career Academy, B&R Backyard BBQ, Butterducks Winery, Debbie’s on 4th, Cake Mix, Effingham School Nutrition, Southern Kafe on 17, KM Cake Design, Horton’s Quality Meats and Sausage, CWGF Catering, Coca-Cola, Miller Lite, and more to come. Lott said restaurants can still sign up so they’re not left out of this marketing opportunity.

“We’ve got new restaurants that haven’t been with us before,” he said. “We finally got one of the Mexican restaurants. I think it will be the usual fun experience for everybody.”

For one price, patrons will be able to sample treats from a room full of restaurants and caterers, enjoy a glass of wine, beer, Coke or water, and enjoy Irish music while looking at the items for purchase in a silent auction. Lott said he’s working to put a “first class” auction together and has weekend hotel packages for St. Simon’s Island and Atlanta’s Ritz Carlton, along with a Riverstreet Riverboat dinner cruise, a YMCA membership, fine jewelry, framing certificates and more.

“This is one auction you won’t want to miss,” said Lott.

And to lend an Irish flavor to the evening, popular Irish singer Harry O’Donoghue will perform. This will be Effingham’s own little St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

“We are looking for a crowd of between 500 and 600,” Lott said, “and if last year’s Taste was any indication, this should be another great event for Effingham County. What a great way to kick off the spring in Effingham County. You won’t want to miss it.”

Tickets are $15 or two for $25 and can be obtained at the Chamber offices, at any Heritage Bank of the South Branch, GeoVista Credit Union, Ameris Bank, Teach Right, Effingham Herald, and the 4-H office.
