The city of Guyton on Tuesday hosted National Night Out, a nationwide observance to bring communities together and promote crime prevention.
Local police, fire and EMS agencies were on hand at Guyton Elementary for the four-hour event. Families received school supplies and enjoyed free food and activities.
Other participating agencies included the American Red Cross, Effingham Victim Witness Assistance Program, Effingham County Animal Shelter, Effingham YMCA and Georgia Forestry Commission.
National Night Out is traditionally held on the first Tuesaday in August. Springfield and Guyton alternate hosting the local Night Out, according to Guyton Police Chief Randy Alexander.
