The fourth annual Mars Theatre benefit ride will be held Saturday at 8 a.m. The registration fee is $40 per rider over 12 years old. Children under 12 ride for free.

Riders will be able to choose 18-, 37- or 65-mile courses, or they can participate in a much shorter family fun ride through downtown Springfield. Registration will be between 7:30 and 8 a.m. in the Mars Theatre parking lot, with the ride to begin at 8 a.m.

The 18-mile course will go to historic Ebenezer and the 37- and 62-mile rides will go through Clyo, Marlow and Guyton.

The proceeds from the Mars Theatre Benefit Ride will be donated to the Mars Theatre in Springfield.

The Mars’ grand opening will be the same weekend as this ride. There will be movies and tours all weekend and riders are encouraged to participate. Coupons for opening weekend events will be given to all riders.

Originally built and opened in 1945, the Mars took the place of the original Springfield Theater built in 1938. The Mars was considered a community staple until it was closed in 1957.
