Effingham Community Orchestra will present its "Something New and Something Patriotic Too" concert on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Effingham County Recreation and Parks Department gymnasium, 808 Highway 119 South in Springfield.

Admission is free.

“The orchestra will present a variety of musical styles,” orchestra director Andrea Huff said. “There will be movie themes, rock and roll classics, jazz, classical and patriotic favorites. Attendees will hear pieces we have not performed in previous concerts. Attendees will also hear patriotic favorites, and we will honor active duty military personnel and veterans with a medley of the official marches of the armed forces.”

A used book sale fundraiser will follow the concert. There will be hundreds of fiction and non-fiction books for adults and children. Hardbacks will be $1, paperbacks will be 25 cents. Unique, special and rare books will be individually priced. All proceeds from the book sale will go directly to the orchestra.

“Funds raised will help us to continue performing wonderful free concerts for our community,” Huff said. “We have planned an interesting and exciting afternoon. There will be something for every musical taste and for every reading interest. What could be better that fabulous music and wonderful books on the same day at the same event? We invite everyone to join us for the fun.”

Effingham Community Orchestra was founded seven years ago and is comprised of both adult and high school youth musicians. The orchestra is funded solely by fundraisers and contributions from participants and interested supporters.
