Bishop to deliver March 3 message at Rincon United Methodist Church

Bishop R. Lawson Bryan, episcopal leader of the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church, will speak at Rincon United Methodist Church on Sunday, March 3.

Bryan will deliver his message at the 11 a.m. service. 

In addition to the bishop, guests will include his wife, Sherrill, and Coastal District Superintendent Rev. David Thompson and his wife, Jennifer. 

Rev. J. Michael Finn, pastor at Rincon UMC, said, “It is truly a privilege and an honor to have the bishop speak at our church. We invite our Methodist brethren in the area to join us on this occasion.”

Bishop Bryan was born in Quincy, Fla., and spent his early years in Bainbridge  before moving to Dothan, Ala., at 12 years of age. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Tulane University and a doctorate in Ministry from Candler School of Theology at Emory University. He and his wife are parents of a son who is married and resides in Alabama.

Bryan has been an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church for more than 42 years, serving a number of churches in Alabama. He was elected bishop in 2016 to serve the South Georgia Conference.

He said, “Returning to Georgia is like a 'homecoming' in a sense because I spent my boyhood years in Georgia.” 

He has been involved in many community efforts and organizations as well as holding numerous Methodist leadership roles throughout his ministry. He was elected bishop in July 2016 to serve the South Georgia Conference.

The service will include special music from the Chancel Choir, the Handbell Choir and the men's ensemble “'Journeymen of Praise.”
