Chamber to hold business resource workshop

The Effingham County Chamber of Commerce will host a business resource workshop on Nov. 19, at the Chamber Welcome Center at 520 W. Third St. in Springfield. The workshop designed especially for would-be entrepreneurs and owners of start-up businesses will begin at 6 p.m. and conclude by 7:30 p.m.

Held in conjunction with the Chamber’s Entrepreneur Friendly Task Force, the Business Resource Workshop will feature speakers and specialists from the University of Georgia Business Development Center, the Small Business Assistance Center in Savannah, Savannah Tech, the Georgia Department of Economic Development and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.

Tony O’Reilly of the Small Business Assistance Center will discuss how to prepare a business plan, and offer an overview of the training and assistance available through the local branch of the University of Georgia’s Small Business Development Center.

Ken Boyd of Savannah Tech will unveil new small business programming and services that will be offered at the college’s new Effingham campus.

Ebony White of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs will give an update on doing business with the state of Georgia and assistance for business start-ups.

Ray Snow will offer an overview of the Georgia Department of Economic Development’s initiative for small and growing businesses.  The state’s Entrepreneur Friendly initiative is now active in 63 counties. Chamber officials hope to gain certification as an Entrepreneur Friendly community by February 2008.
