City pushes ahead with block grant application

The city of Springfield is trying to clear up an issue with the state as it pushes forward with a community development block grant application.

The city is seeking a grant from the Department of Community Affairs to help fund the extension of sewer lines to an underserved and low-income area. In putting together its information, the city discovered two employees, were living in the neighborhood the grant would serve.

“You want to disclose it up front, so you don’t get questions on it later,” said City Manager Brett Bennett. “We just happen to have two employees who live in this area.”
