County holds off on buying new patrol cars

Effingham County commissioners decided not to buy new patrol cars — at least, not any of the Ford Crown Victorias — for now.

Ford is discontinuing production of its Crown Victoria line and its police interceptor model. The police version of the Crown Victoria was the most widely-bought patrol vehicle among U.S. law enforcement agencies.

Ford Motor Company made an offer to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office to buy four Crown Victoria patrol cars before the line ceases production. The offer to buy the cars was good through midnight March 1.
