An Effingham County man who faced several charges of child molestation and sexual exploitation will spend 10 years in jail.

Brandon Fanning was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison and 10 years on probation following his plea on one count of sexual exploitation of children. He was arrested in August 2013 after a Department of Homeland Security raid on a Louisiana home uncovered illicit videos, including those with Fanning and his victim. Fanning’s videos were traced back to Effingham County.

Fanning had been charged with four counts of aggravated child molestation.

Prosecutors had been seeking a 20-year sentence. Fanning, if convicted on all counts, faced a maximum of 25 years to life, plus 20 years.

Fanning was indicted Sept. 16, 2013, and entered a plea of not guilty on Oct. 16, 2013. He also had been charged with four counts of aggravated child molestation, computer sexual exploitation, child molestation, statutory rape and computer or electronic pornography.

Fanning also was ordered to undergo a mental evaluation because of what was termed low IQ and deviant sexual behavior.
