Domestic Dispute

An officer responded in reference to a removal of unwanted person call. When the officer arrived, he spoke to both parties and found out that both were accusing each other of taking personal property and refusing to return it. The woman stated that the man took her cell phone and wouldn’t give it back and the man stated that the woman had taken $90 and a $10 lottery ticket. The woman requested that the man leave the residence but the man showed the officer some IRS paperwork with a February 2012 date on it showing his name and address. The officer asked the woman if she evicted the man and she said no. The officer then told the woman that in order for the man to be removed from the residence he would have to be evicted. Both people continued to agitate each other about the missing items. The officer advised the man that he needed to leave for the night to prevent further problems or one or both of them would be arrested.

Suspicious Vehicle

An officer responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle. The officer made contact with a Burgundy Ford F-150 driving slowly down the road. The officer attempted to pull the truck over but the vehicle fled. The driver swerved into a yard and ran on foot. When the driver exited the vehicle he had an unopened bottle of beer in his hand. The man jumped the fence, the officer used his taser but it did nothing but make the man drop the bottle. The man fell to the ground and the officer was able to arrest the man. During a search, the officer found a crack cocaine smoking pipe and a pair of blue and white gloves on the ground. The gloves contained both of the taser probes. The bed of the truck contained household appliances, including a washer, dryer, stereo, food and other items.

Aggravated assault (domestic violence act)(other dangerous weapon)

The complainant stated that while he was in church, the deacon came and told him that the suspect (the man’s live-in girlfriend) was outside in the street waiting for him. He stated that he went outside and the suspect, who was highly intoxicated, came at him with a large kitchen knife. He was able to get away from her and she then turned and fled the area on foot down the road. The deputies were unable to locate the woman.

Public Intoxication

While on patrol, an officer observed a man riding on a small bicycle in the middle of the roadway. The offender was noticeably intoxicated as he flagged the officer down in the middle of the street. There was a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on him, and he was having trouble standing up. The officer exited the vehicle and the offender began telling the officer about his daughter and her "black, drug dealing boyfriend" and how he wanted to talk to another officer. He also said to "(blank) yourself and the police." The officer also had to keep getting the man out of the street so cars could go by. The man was taken to the jail for public intoxication.

Neighborhood complaint

An officer spoke with a woman who stated that the offender, her neighbor, has a video surveillance camera pointed at her home. The complainant also stated that the offender takes pictures of her and her property as he rides his bicycle past her home. The complainant also stated that the offender looks over her fence at her sometimes. She said that they both have an ongoing feud about her dogs. She then showed the officer what she believed to be the video camera. Upon investigation, it turned out to be a solar light fixture. The offender stated that he put up a two thousand dollar fence so that he wouldn’t have to look at the complainant or her property. He also stated that the woman thinks that he turned her in about having too many animals on her property along with running a tire business in her yard. Both parties were told to stay away from one another.

Battery (domestic violence act)

An officer responded to a residence in reference to a domestic disturbance. The complainant stated that while she was on the phone with her husband, her son was beating him up. The husband had asked his stepson to clean up the dishes that were in the kitchen and for him and his friends to stop eating all of the food in the house. The son got angry and started scratching his stepfather. The husband had a ripped shirt and scratch marks but the son had no marks on him that the officer could see. The stepson said that his stepdad began yelling at him and jumped on his back. The officer concluded that the son was the primary aggressor, placed him under arrest, and took him to the Effingham County Jail.
