Effingham County Sheriff’s investigators have charged a man who was stabbed after attempting to rape a female.

On April 20, deputies were called to the 400 block of Jerrel Woods Road on a report of a sexual assault. Upon their arrival, deputies found Ryan  Daniel Herrington, 30, of Guyton suffering from multiple stab wounds. Herrington was taken to Memorial University Medical Center with serious injuries.

Herrington and a female victim got in a physical altercation as he attempted to sexually assault her, according to reports. During the attack, the female stabbed Herrington multiple times in self defense during a violent struggle.

Sheriff’s investigators charged Harrington with aggravated assault, criminal attempt to commit rape, false imprisonment and kidnapping.

Herrington was hospitalized for an extended time with what are described as very serious injuries after the attack. The woman also was taken to the hospital for her injuries in the incident.

Herrington was staying at the residence at the time of the incident, ECSO spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor said.

Additional drug charges could be forthcoming as investigators also discovered a meth lab at the residence.

Herrington was booked into the Effingham County Jail.
