A paramedic from Effingham County has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of possessing child pornography.
Richard Burton faces seven counts of possession, receipt and transportation of child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia’s office. The indictment stemmed from a joint investigation with GBI Special Agents John Barry and Eugene Howard, Chief Dan Haueter of the New Waterford, Ohio, Police Department, FBI Special Agent Joshua Hayes and Special Agent Tom West of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
U.S. Attorney Edmund A. Booth Jr. said the indictment is only an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The case was brought about by Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide U.S. Department of Justice initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse.
