Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies made six arrests for driving under the influence during patrols and safety checkpoints on New Year’s Eve.

The ECSO beefed up patrols and also conducted several safety checkpoints. Deputies wrote 25 citations and confiscated marijuana and “spice.” In all, nine arrests were made, and 21 warnings and seven safety restraint violations were issued.

“Deputies conducted safety checks around the county to ensure the safety of the citizens and focus on taking impaired drivers off the streets,” said Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie. “New Year’s Eve was a success, without any major incidents.”
